The Urban Health Television Series
Urban Health Today
In 2008, America witness history in the making. We saw the first Black American elected to the highest office in the land. One of his initiatives was to improve the health care system in this country, which has be widely ignored for years, while imposing greater hardship on the under served. A wide number of needed program cuts, have forced many physician to close their doors to those they took an oath, “do no harm”. The community at large, is forced to go to other services outside their communities, only to be denied service because of not having proper health insurance and little or no money. Misdiagnoses of illnesses, improper medical care, and lack of funding, are just a few issues adding to the disparity among African-Americans, Latinos, and poor whites county wide.
Good health programs and preventive measures are needed in the under served communities of San Diego County. Information and the saturation of the that information, is key to closing the gap. While people continue to require medical care, financial doors are being shut in their face.
